​HIGHER EDUCATION

  • Higher Education Grant Program

    • Purpose: Provides financial assistance to enrolled members of the Yerington Paiute Tribe. Students must be entering or continuing with their post-secondary education and require financial support to achieve their higher education degrees.

    • Qualifications: Enrolled member of the Yerington Paiute Tribe, must have a High School Diploma, Adult Diploma, or GED Certificate, must have applied to FAFSA, required to complete a minimum of 12 credits and maintain a 2.5 GPA

    • DEADLINES

  • Adult Vocational Training Program

  • Enrichment Program

    • Purpose: Designed to allow enrolled members of the Yerington Paiute Tribe to enhance their personal growth or life skills by taking an extension class.

    • Qualifications: Enrolled member of the Yerington Paiute Tribe, must have a High School Diploma, Adult Diploma, or GED Certificate, proof of course/class and costs to enroll.

    • DEADLINES:

NATIVE YOUTH COMMUNITY PROJECT - NYCP

The State of NV Dept of Education has selected 2 school districts in 3 rural counties based on tribal and school needs assessments. Lyon County School District was one of them to serve the Yerington High School and the Yerington Intermediate School, serving the Yerington Paiute Tribe and Walker River Paiute Tribe Students.

 

  • Grades 7th-12th that attend Yerington schools.

  • Increase student motivation and readiness to attend College or Vocational Training.

    • Students will learn about the process of applying for both scholarships and loans.

  • College Visits

    • Students are taken on tours to trade, technical and colleges. (Virtually in 2020)

  • Promote the importance of education among the community and participating student families.

    • Improving academic achievement and individualized academic plan for each student.

  • Community Collaborative Events

    • Multiple events for students, parents, guardians, included cultural activities.

 

“The program has had a dramatic effect on the kids…you can see the impact of someone being a Native and working with those kids…it has made such a difference. We want to see the program replicated in other places.”   ~District/School Administrator

  • Summer Program

    • Students from the YPT community, grades K-6 may participate in the Summer Education Program where they will be in sessions focused on STEM, Math, and Literacy and have fun field trips!

  • Summer Foods

    • While the students aren’t in school, children toddlers to 18 years old can participate in the Summer Foods Program where children are provided free breakfast and lunch when they call to sign up.
